Founded in 1998, the Napa Valley Photographic Society (NVPS) promotes the art and science of photography – providing education, image appreciation, inspiration, and exchange of technologies. The Society fosters personal growth, expression, creativity and excellence in all aspects of photographic endeavors.

NVPS chose the theme Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. Images might reflect one period or two periods of time or all three. The somewhat open theme permits a diversity of subject matter and presentation styles from printing on metal to printing on canvas or the traditional mat-and-frame format. Some images and the video presentation will feature Napa/Napa Valley history, historical sites and changes. In addition, there will be displays of “antique” cameras and memorabilia.

There are currently approximately 50 members in the club. Some are academically trained; some self-taught. Some are current or retired professional photographers. From a survey of members, the NVPS board learned that the majority of respondents consider themselves “active enthusiasts”. What all have in common is enthusiasm for the medium of photography.

At a typical meeting, a guest photographer makes a presentation about some facet of his/her photographic expertise. This guest then critiques images that have been submitted digitally by members. The images usually relate to the topic of the guest speaker. It is always interesting to see photographs by fellow club members, and there is always something to learn from the critiques.

The club also provides information about photography workshops, field trips, and Photography Meetups for those interested in opportunities to photograph together. Please visit the NVPS website to learn more about the club and its activities.

The club has resumed meeting at the American Legion Hall located at 1240 Pearl St. in downtown Napa. We meet on the fourth Monday evening of the month except December when there is an annual holiday party instead.  Club dues are $45 annually.
